UK unemployment holds at 6 percent

The unemployment rate for July to September 2014 was 6.0 percent, down from 7.6 percent for a year earlier and level with the August print. Expectations had been for a slight decline to 5.9 percent.

UK employment continued to rise and unemployment continued to fall. These changes continue the general direction of movement since late 2011/early 2012.

For July to September 2014, 73.0 percent of people aged from 16 to 64 were in work, up from 71.6 percent for a year earlier.

USD has lost some upward momentum in the near-term – BTMU

Lee Hardman, Currency Analyst at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ notes that the US dollar has continued to weaken modestly in the Asian trading session extending its decline following the release of the weaker than expected non-farm payrolls report from late last week.
